On Sunday the children of the Parish Church Sunday School had their annual prize distribution. The Rev. W.L. Boulton (Vicar) handed out 150 books in the Common Road Schools. The secretarial duties were carried out by Mrs. M. Shaw (superintendent).
On Wednesday, on behalf of the New Fall Street Methodist Church funds, a variety entertainment was given in the schoolroom by the "Cheeriettes" Concert Party and by Church members. The event was organised jointly by Mr. S. Marshall (Sunday School Secretary) nad Mrs. Williamson, who were in charge of the following "Cheeriettes":- Nancy Hinks, Jean Quibell, Dorothy Burton, Jessie Woodhead, Madge Pitt, Margaret Smith, Margaret Boden, Kathleen Hardy, Lena Miller, Rita Williamson. Others who assisted with the programme were Mr. and Mrs. J. Arrowsmith, Messrs. F. Colley, G. Iball and Jack Draycott, Master Graham Hardy and Misses Mary Boden, Daisy Warren, Gladys Cooper, Edna and Edith Pembleton, Joan Simmonds, Joan Williamson, Edna Boden, Rhoda Turner, Ivy Finch, Edna Marshall and Sally Turner. The items consisted of sketches, solos, song-scenas and dances, many being attractive costume features. The juniors had been trained by Mrs. Williamson, who, by also acting as pianist, lent valuable help to the effort.
The funeral took place on Friday of Mrs. Harriett Williams, of 4, Old Fall Street, who passed away at the ge of 51. She had been in failing health for a considerable time, but had only been confined to the house for the last two weeks. She had resided in Huthwaite for 30 years. Deceased was a native of Heage (Derbyshire), and left that place at the age of nine for Stanton Hill, where she lived for 11 years before coming to Huthwaite. Her husband predeceased her by about ten years, and three sons and one daughter are bereaved. The Rev. W.L. Boulton officiated at the funeral, and conducted the service in the Parish Church. The mourners were :- Albert, Leonard, Joyce, Bob and Ethel, sons, daughter and daughter-in-law. Mr. J.
