FOOTBALL

The game was commenced in lively fashion, a well contented attack by the Night School enabling them to test Allsop's skill, but Severns' final effort was rather weak, and the custodians easily disposed of the shot. The home team now attacked by means of a good passing movement by Bonsor and C Walters, Herrod and Miller clearing in grand style. However, C Walters received, and, with a fast shot which cannoned off one of the visiting defenders, he gave his side the lead after five minutes' play.
Enlivened by this reverse, the 'Scholars' front rank was set going, and Pickaver quickly equalised the scores with a beautifully placed shot when he received a centre from Simmons. Pickaver made a run on the left, and, from his perfect centre, Severns put his side ahead.
At the opposite end C Walters and Stringfellow collided in struggling for the ball, the former having to leave the field. Hill gave to Pickaver, and the latter scored the third goal for his side with a lovely shot, Allsop being helpless. Close on half-time it was alleged that Simmons scored with a long dropping shot, but the referee disallowed the claim for a goal.
Interval :- Night School, 3;   Top End, 1.
Resuming, the homestars advanced, Miller clearing and Herrod punched away a fast shot from Strickland. Bonser ought to have scored, being presented with an open goal, yet he failed miserably. Harrison received, and eluding Flowers, got a fourth for the Night School.
M Allsop worked through but could not score. Strickland, however, got another goal after Stringfellow had fisted away a fast drive from J Walters. The play was fsat, and Pickaver tried Allsop with two low shots to no purpose. Simmons broke through to register a fifth after being heavily charged by J Walters. The home side were having slightly more of the play, but were weak near goal, and several players were presented with open goals. No further scoring resulted, and a very entertaining game ended :-
