1909 Midland Railways for Huthwaite

Issue32A 1909 Distance Diagram published in issue 32 of the Midlands Railway Society Journal accompanied an article titled Which County? written by Mr Glynn Waite. He displays how Whiteboro' Station uniquely spanned county borders. Purchasing tickets in Nottinghamshire from Hucknall Huthwaite offices facing Chesterfield Road, a short walk down onto the platform meant passengers actually boarded trains inside Derbyshire.

This railroad map does however reveal one of two proposals aimed at siting an alternative station nearer the centre of Huthwaite. But as these Midland branch lines were destined to collect coals from other Tibshelf, Teversal and Skegby collieries off the main Erewash Valley line, this tied mutual railroad interests from a Westhouses Residents Association. Alex Fisher added photos of the Westhouses sheds, reminding how the Blackwell Branch entering New Hucknall Colliery yards was also similarly all largely serviced from those busy former Workshops sidings.
