Huthwaite Online WW2 Remembrance

Boatswain Harry George Wilkinson was born 18th February 1898 in Margate, the son of Mr James and Mrs Wilkinson.

Merchant Navy service registered a wife Mrs Hilda Wilkinson addressed at 28 Blackwell Road, Huthwaite.

Boatswain Harry George Wilkinson was ultimately serving aboard S/S Empire Lakeland from port of registry South Sheilds.

Empire Lakeland was a cargo ship completed November 1942 for use by the Ministry of War Transport. A crew of 64 were shipping general supplies from New York to Glasgow when torpedoed by U-Boat U190 on 11th March 1943. There were no survivors. All supposed drowned.
