Dr Don Clitheroe had built himself a relatively large house to be solely occupied by his family addressing 127 Sutton Road. On his departure from the Huthwaite New Street Medical Centre, he left behind this vacated property standing unused for many years.
It had long been rumoured this would eventually resite a future Huthwaite Health Centre, heard years before noting the properties neglected state from 2003. It later transpires, after sighting 2008 clearance, that had indeed been the doctors generous bequest.
The barren plot of land cornering top Skegby Road continued to present a view over Parkside rooftops toward Brierley Forest Park below. Notice was given May 2011 confirming building would commence, preceded by adding a Sutton Road pedestrian crossing.
Foundations are laid through October 2012, and that year ends by slowly revealing full extent of the large ground level layout.
A cold and snowy start to 2013 apparently caused unexpected delays exposing a growing height into April.
Removal of scaffolding just before May still left many unfinished touches to further extend date from this months expected opening.
Delayed opening of new Huthwaite Health Centre GP surgeries was marked on 3rd June 2013. Retaining original 127 Sutton Road address is shared by a secondary front entrance designed for next relocating the New Street chemists. Since September 2013, all prescriptions are dispensed on site, using the conjoined Huthwaite Peak Pharmacy from this named Brierley Park Medical Centre.
This £2.9m Brierley Park Medical Centre developed by LSP Developments, is owned by primary care investor Assura Group.
