Lengthy development of a Whitegates Estate added a final few more 20th century Huthwaite street names. Whitegates Way entry off Blackwell Road adopted opening into the anciently known Little Lane to introduce c1995 postcode NG17 2SA addresses. Carving new residential lined route behind old premises was only a preliminary step constructing this largest freehold estate todate.
Quakers were earliest recognised owners farming this land. Their 1802 plans show a small row of cottages, plus an old Society of Friends meeting house just before its demolition. Before 1881 census Tomlinson had claimed 80 acres addressing marital home Bottom End Town Farm, later called Huthwaite Farm. Little Lane also predates 1608 deeds as a farm track accessing lower southern meadows. Cutting a triangular roadside right section is left undeveloped beside a footpath. Mr Taylor's adjacent left side bungalow saw total farm yard clearance and presumably profitable land sales.
Sudbury Drive branches off Whitegates Way, rejoining it at the far west end having taken a longer route curving round southern extreme. Calke Avenue offers a central connection, while Stainsby Grove and Kedlestone Close both branch off east extreme. Its a tidy looking estate, which unfortunately for me, came some 15 years too late when purchasing a new build 3 bed led elsewhere.
