Born in Hucknall Huthwaite, the son of John Dove and Eliza (formerly Smith) whom later resided at 48 Alfred Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, where Ernest does gain recognition upon that town memorial. A cotton patent hand prior enlisting at Mansfield on 7th June 1916, being called up on 23rd September 1916.
